I've been blogging 4 1/2 years, 1431 posts, 90,828 page views. Man, I wish I had said something useful in all that. I thought you might enjoy some of the stats, maybe devise a trivia game to play around the dining room table tonight or something.
One thing the stats prove: You guys really, really love my cupcake reviews. (speaking of which, I have one I haven't written yet: strawberry waffle. Hint: I ate the whole thing without sharing)
The all-time most popular: Dick's Last Resort
The other popular posts are organically listed on my front page. Not listed, but a favorite among many was Astronaut Ron Garan's description of re-entry. That one was a lot of fun to write. Astronaut Doug Wheelock's Emergency on the ISS garnered a lot of attention, as well as that whole series on him.
The only post that elicited controversial comments.....
, strangely, was this one.
Another one in the top ten most popular is "Finding a Home Wherever You Go." And that's probably only because it contains hottie Matthew McConaughey.
Curious and Curiouser I had 265 hits on this musing.
The most popular food post was Paula Deen's Peach Cobbler, but this Pretzel Turtle Recipe was a close second. You guys love you some turtle pretzel snack.
The most common search term that leads a person to my blog after Dick's Last Resort is "Vern," with the third most common being "drones," and the fourth, "Nora Jones."
64,602 of my pageviews come from within the US. The second most popular reader residence is the Ukraine and the third is Germany, but I have repeat readers from 7 other countries as well, the least of which, only 375, is Australia. Those Aussies just don't get my humor.
Big thanks to all of you who have supported me and encouraged me. Thanks to all who shared my links and sent folks to my pages. Thanks for all the kind words and comments.
4.5 years, blogging almost every day, I am finally slowing down. I really, really don't have time for this. That makes me sad because this is what breathes life into me. I get inspired and energized by writing. But not when I have to hurry through it. Then I just get heartburn. And my enthusiasm has drained.
So. I don't think I'll quit, but I am slowing down and I'm not sure, but I think I'm OK with that.

" ....this is what breathes life into me."??? And you're slowing way down? What you're saying is that the non-comments are being allowed to choke the life out of you! I encouraged you then - I will keep encouraging now! Slow down A BIT if you must, but keep it coming ... there are probably a lot of readers who don't post comments. Give up something else and KEEP BREATHING, my friend!!
Whether you slow down or quit altogether, your words are and always were worthwhile. Over 90 thousand hits proves that. You're an excellent writer and no one can take that away, ever. So do what you will, do it for yourself, you've earned it...but remember, lots of readers will miss you, including me.
I'm one of those people that regularly reads your blog but never leaves a comment. Please continue posting as you're an excellent writer, although please could you stop posting about cupcakes as I'm currently on a diet :-)
Thanks for the nice comments. It's nice to know real people are out there. Diet? What's that?
Well said Connie, don't slow down Val! I Love to read your blog, I may not comment a lot, but that is be ause I have a hard time making sense of the codes they want us to type in, but then again if I put my glasses on I might be able to read it, we will see if I get to post this or not!
