Rockin the House and Enjoying Life

While we were in NJ, we got a chance to see Jaime's new place and, of course, while there . . . we played a little Rock Band.

The thing about Rock Band is... it sucks you in. You can say "No, no thanks, I'll just watch."

Or you can say, "Naw, that's a'right, I can't really sing, always way off key."

-

You can say whatever you want.

But you're gonna get sucked in. You're gonna play. You're gonna sing. Introvert. Extrovert. Upsidedownvert. Doesn't matter, you're gonna play. It's a sirens song.

I've mentioned before how this trip was focused on spending time with family. Remember this Summer to slow down a little and enjoy time together - working, playing, doing goofy things - whatever. Enjoy each other.

On our way home, we drove through Lancaster county, PA and drove through a couple covered bridges. One was across the Cocalico Creek and was built in 1892. Anyone want to comment why covered bridges were created? They're beautiful, but looks like a lot of work and expense... for what?

We saw several buggies of Amish people heading in to work. We were sort of longing for that kind of life, seems simple, slowed down and enjoyable, but honestly, they look kind of grumpy. (probably sick of people taking their pictures)

Here's Tom with his childhood buddy Gene Sanguinetti. They haven't seen each other in more than 20 years - since Gene's wedding. Our two families got to meet and spend a meal together, it was great.

My point? Again: Slow down and spend time together. Our nation is too fast paced and too focused on material things which definitely leave you unfulfilled.

"Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless. As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owner except to feast his eyes on them? The sleep of a laborer is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of a rich man permits him no sleep. . . .

Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life. And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God. God keeps such people so busy enjoying life that they take no time to brood over the past.
