Happy Father's Day!
-Is he there to encourage, strengthen, support his son? Is he there to enjoy every last minute of his hobby? Is he there as an attempt to stay young, energetic? Is he reluctant to release his passion, to pass it on to the next generation? Is he grasping precious time that is dissipating? Is he donating something invaluable at a personal cost? Is he fighting fatigue to give unselfishly? Is he imparting wisdom and instruction that took him years to glean? Is this a time of refreshment, renewal, clearing his mind of stress?

Are there definitions to Fatherhood? Are there stereotypes, assumptions, preconceived notions? There seems to be limits. There are boo boos that need kissing and cookies that need baking and we don't allow most fathers into that realm. There are worries that need stewing, but fathers can't stew; fathers must rush in and solve. Fathers must be brave and smooth rampant worries. Fathers must be tough and teach responsibility and work ethics and how to change a flat. Fathers must go under the house and repair a leak or fix the heat. Fathers mustn't refuse dirt or sweat or anything gross. Fathers are vital to our families, which, in turn are vital to our country.

"Listen, my sons, to a father's instruction; pay attention and gain understanding. I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching. When I was a boy in my father's house, still tender, and an only child of my mother, he taught me and said, "Lay hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands and you will live. Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them. Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you."

Sweet tribute to father's Val, love the pic of Steve and Dad and of course Dad and Emma. He's been a great dad to you kids and oh how he loves all of you. Happy Father's Day to all you dad's who read this today.
I take exception to where you say fathers don't bake cookies. I'll have you know that I bake the cookies in our household.
